How to get slim and sexy legs?

Question:

Hi, I’m 25- year old woman in a pretty good shape, I have practiced competitive aerobics for years. It has been years since I stopped practicing, but it has left something that reminds me of my training on my body, really muscular thighs and calves. The muscles built extremely fast, I have thought that it had something to do with the fact that I’m not the tallest person, about 5 feet in height. For the years after the practicing, I haven’t done any weightlifting just kept my condition by exercising, walking, jogging, cycling etc. These days I run for about an hour a day, 5 days a week and in addition I visit at the local gym using the cross trainer and rowing machine about four times a week. I don’t really understand why don’t my legs get any leaner after all of this cardio. I would like to get slim and sexy legs, but obviously I’m doing something wrong since I don’t seem to be able to achieve my goal. Also I have planned to lose ten lbs for the summer. Thanks in advance.

Answer:

First of all, one thing has to be said, I don’t know anything about looking sexy and it seems that something in one’s eye might be sexy, in the other one’s eye it isn’t. So looking sexy is in the eye of the beholder. That been said let’s talk about getting slimmer legs.

One of the unfortunate facts of life is the fact that the type of body which you have does have a remarkable impact on what shape your muscles are, how the “excess” fat distributes around your body and obviously to all the proportions of your body. Some of us have an muscular X type body, a slim waistline and wide shoulders, others may have apple shaped body etc.  The fact is that, for some body types gaining muscle size seems to be as easy trick as stealing a candy from a child. In your case the unfortunate thing is that, the gained muscle shape will stay for a long time, even if you stopped exercising. This again is one of the life mysteries, you might be wondering why some at the same time while you are trying to get slimmer legs are pumping at the gym to get more muscle mass to their legs. These people have the problem another way around, they don’t get the muscles easy. Both of these aims, to get muscle mass and to get rid of the muscle mass, are really challenging for certain body types. You shouldn’t still go into despair, there are somethings you can try to do to get your legs leaner.  One of the things to understand is that the crosstrainer and the rowing machine both do use your thigh and calves muscles a lot, so your legs are still getting a constant exercising.

You most likely have your body adapted to this high load of aerobic exercising, and in your body’s eyes it is a normal state. First I would suggest that you would leave the leg muscle pumping exercises, cross trainer and rowing machine, for some time, for 5 – 7 months for start. What you could try is to replace these exercises with high uphill intensity walking,  maybe you have access to a treadmill where you could adjust the angle of the machine to about 20 degrees uphill. Thinking about exercises, where you don’t use your legs that much is quite hard. You could also think about, jogging more if your legs are up for it.

Probably the most significant change can be seen as a result from your weight loss. You will lose fat all around your body and your thighs will get most likely leaner. Also you might consider about exercising your upper body to get your appearance to look more balanced. Take a picture of your body and take another picture after six months, compare the two to see the real differences. Losing muscle mass from your legs isn’t easy and one part of it is to try to move the center of your body mass a bit higher by exercising your upper body more, but don’t overdo that also or otherwise you are asking me after six months: “How to get rid of muscular shoulders”. One trick is also to get a more butt muscle, it will also deceive the eye.
