What would save my shoulders from office work?
Question:
What would save my shoulders. I work long hours with computers, I have got really bad neck and shoulder pains. Doctor has advised to go to gym, but I have never really been into lifting weights. Is there any other sport that would be suitable to get rid of the neck and shoulder pain?
Answer:
These days working with computers is so common that different pains and cramps on shoulders and neck have become a really common problem. The long static working positions cause different cramp like tensions and these result as different pain- and numbing states in our bodies. Working on computers especially is hazardous, and the neck and shoulder area muscles are in especially in danger. You might sit for everyday in almost the same position for 8 hours and this isn’t good for your shoulders and neck.
So where to start, first of course is the gym, lifting weight, doing push-ups etc. But, if you really aren’t into such workouts, then there are other possibilities. There are different sports like fitness swimming, stick gymnastics, aqua fitness, nordic walking and a bit rougher sports like fitness boxing and different martial arts. Especially the fitness boxing has been proven time and time again beneficial to anyone who has a work that includes a lot of sitting in front of a computer. Doing these exercises will help your muscles to release the tensions around your muscles and they will get you the natural posture back and stretch for your muscles. Stretching is always very recommendable to do, once in hour do a small stretch on your back, neck and shoulders when you are working, this will keep your muscles much more mobile and they don’t cramp up.
Unfortunately, if the strains on your neck and shoulders has got to that stage where it is really bad. First thing to do is to rest, maybe you need some medication and physiotherapy before you can start exercising.
