I want to get bigger muscles!
Question:
Is there an ideal duration for exercising muscles, which would get my muscles growing? I go to gym two to three times a week and practice for about an hour at a time. If I would only exercise twice a week, should I then exercise longer at a time to get the same results? And is two aerobic lessons in a row too much?
Answer:
The time required for active exercising can vary very much, depending much on your workout plan, how you workout and how many different muscles groups do you workout. If there should be a time said, an ideal time for one exercise session is from 45 to 60 minutes, for this time period you can still do effective exercises. If you exercise hard for too long, the effectiveness of the exercising will go down, because your body starts to get tired.
You should do a 5 to 10 minutes of warm-up with for example the exercise bike or with treadmill. This gets your body and muscles warmed up and the probability of an injury goes down, you will not get ruptures so easily. Also some recommend to stretch between your weightlifting sets.
You should eat about two hours before you go exercising, this way you have enough energy to go through with your exercising. Those energy drinks which are taken just before exercising lift up your sugar levels high and might result as a loose feeling during your exercises. So fast working energy drinks aren’t ideal as an exercise drink. Your muscles will get used to regular exercising quite fast, so some can go through two aerobic lessons without any problems. For most people, one hour of aerobic exercise at a time is enough.
When you are aiming for bigger muscles, then you should move your workout regime towards using bigger weights. Big weights give more resistance to your muscles, which will stimulate muscle growth. Short 6-8 repetition sets are most effective for muscle growth, but you shouldn’t forget to do longer 10-12 repetition sets once in a while.
