Squash

Squash, is resembles closely to racquetball. In short it is a fast paced ball game with two to four players, doubles games are very rare though. Why it is here, it is relatively fast to learn to get to that level where you really start burning fat, also it is quite fan game.

The rules are similar to any other racket sport, players take turns to try to hit the ball. Ball is allowed to touch the floor only once in turn, and the turn changes when the ball hits the front wall and keeps inside the court. It is like tennis, as the ball goes over the net the turns change, in squash as the ball hits the wall. Although the size of the court is smaller than in tennis, there is more rapid sprints and direction changes than there is in tennis. Also when compared to badminton again, the court is bigger and you need to do those sprints. It is a bit of combination of the two as an exercise and this makes it harder than either of them. There are not many racquet sports that can achieve calorie burn of 840kcal / hour for a 155lbs (70kg) person. So squash is definitely a nice way to burn fat.

What you need for squash is of course to read the rules first, a friend who is willing to go to play with you, rackets, indoor sports outfit and shoes and of course the balls. Here comes the nice thing about squash, there are different balls for different level players from a novice ball that bounces high, blue ball, to a professional double yellow ball which is slower and doesn’t bounce that much until it is well warmed up. Why this is a good thing? Well, at the beginning it is hard to react to squash balls movements and it is nice that the ball bounces more, this way you can get to that ball in time to do your serve. As your skills get better, you get faster and are able to react faster to the opponents strike, you start to think that the ball is bouncing too much and you always get to the strikes in time, then it is time to take a slower ball. A slower ball makes the game more challenging, as the ball doesn’t bounce that much you are again in bigger rush to get to that ball in time.

Squash is a fun racket game, with the added bonus that it is one of the hardest racket sports out there and this makes it ideal for burning fat. The rapid changes of direction really make your butt, leg, back and abdominal muscles to work which makes it also a nice toning exercise. Remember, you must really play to get the heart rate up and not chit chat with your friend! I do recommend squash as a sport as well as for burning fat!
